They said it couldn't be done.

A charter airline needed to know the exact level of demand for seats on a proposed route at various levels to determine feasibility and project profitability of the service.

MSI provided market analysis and price/demand regression analysis. We also pointed out that competitors on the route were using a variety of different product features to attract customers including seat pitch, meal services, expedited baggage handling, code sharing, bundled accommodation and car rental. Our recommendations were further built into a price/demand regression model for inventory management.

The airline initiated service and has expanded it as a result of their enhanced service offering vis a vis their competitors

"The industry said we couldn't run a charter service to this destination. We're not only doing it but doing it at a profit and taking substantial market share from the scheduled airlines!"    Product Manager, Charter Airline

Wheels Up!

One of the busiest US domestic airports wanted to expand their non-stop services from European cities. Technical factors limited the size of aircraft which could land and take off at the airport, precluding the use of many transatlantic aircraft. The airport had presented origination and destination demand models to route manages on numerous occasions without success.

MSI quantified existing demand on the route and showed the airports current O/D data to be about 50% lower than the actual use. We also prepared revised future demand analysis and recommended a series of incentives that would not violate international trade agreements or OFT rules to attract the airline to the route. We then arranged a series of meetings between the top executive of the airlines and top political leaders from the airports area to present the revised data. Coupled with intensive PR these meetings had considerable impact in both markets.

The airline initiated the service on a trial basis 3 days per week, put larger aircraft on the route and within a year expanded it to daily service.
